Tonight was the night of the big shows. The first recital took place this afternoon beginning at noon and ending around three and the second show began at six tonight. Before the shows began I gave my tap students their normal good luck goodie bags that I give them each time we have a big performance. In the bags I gave them snacks and coloring activities that can keep them busy while they wait for their next dance. Although they loved the coloring activities, they were excited and full of energy; therefore, they spent most of the time making up dances and doing tricks backstage. I did not have the opportunity to watch them dance at either of the performances today due to having to be getting ready for my own dances Lindsay told me that these were not their best performances; however, they were also not their worst. Just like most recitals have gone in the past their second performance was stronger than the first. Through personal experience dancing in the recital, the first performance is almost like a practice for the second. The night time crowed is typically more excited and into the performance. Beginning an older dancer, this is also the performance that is the very last recital the seniors will preform in making it more of an emotional experience. With all of this being said, once the DVD of the recital comes out in the next few weeks I plan on watching their performance and coming up with some ideas of ways we can make the dance and kids stronger before headed off to Nationals in the beginning of July.
